This house is a rental house with accessible features for people with ALS. We do not advertise or rent to the general public. This is NOT a specialized care facility. It is a single family house, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with special features for people with ALS.

There are lots of accessible features - but they are subtle, so the house feels like a home
We designed this house not just for pALS, but for cALS as well. Having space to help is important
Widened doorways, pocket doors, lever-style handles, low thresholds make for easier movement
Handrails - some recessed, some disguised, some obvious
Roll in showers for wheeled devices
Widened hallway
Roll-unders at sinks, cooktop for wheeled devices; or use a stool to sit while working
Ramps instead of steps - almost everywhere
Ease of access between indoors and outdoors; nobody wants to be stuck indoors

In 2026, the house is renting for $2,734/month plus utilities. This is HUD’s Fair Market Rent for Jefferson County for a 3 bedroom apartment. (The market rate rental on this single family house in August of 2025 was appraised at $3,500/month.)

In 2025, utilities costs were about $300/month for water & sewer, trash & recycling, internet, gas & electricity. The house has solar panels, a heat pump & furnace, a sprinkler system for the gardens. In summer of 2026, we are installing a backup Powerwall battery. The electricity was updated to current code in 2025. The house was also fully insulated in 2025 with many new, double pane doors and windows.

No, however: the house has several items that may be useful such as a power wheelchair (fitted for a small female), a manual wheelchair, a massage chair, and a pneumatic medical bed. We can also remove these items if not wanted.

We do the normal process of running a credit check. We will also ask for a confirmation letter from a medical professional or ALS organization that the named tenant has ALS.

Generally, we do a 6 month lease with the pALS as the first named tenant.
After 6 months, the lease converts to month to month.
If the tenancy changes, the lease will be revised.
Security deposit is equal to two month rent.
Animals are allowed.
Tenants are required to have rental insurance.

We do! Raggedy Clan wants pALS and cALS to live their best life. Maintenance is on us and that includes things like yard and garden care, home repairs, and snow removal.
